NeSterN Duo

Flutists and colleagues Kathleen Nester and Wendy Stern formed the NeSterN Duo, performing on all the instruments of the flute family, including the baroque traverso. During the pandemic, we collaborated virtually, and one of our favorites was our reimagining of Daniel Dorff’s Invention on BWV 1013, which he originally composed for two flutes. We added alto and bass flutes and recorded it remotely in 2021. We affectionately call it “The Intervention.”

Daniel Dorff also wrote for us a trilogy of pieces scored for two low flutes and piano which were premiered at NFA Conventions in 2019 and 2023 and recorded on the Austrian Gramophone Label, soon to be released in February, 2026.
